On Wednesdays, We Talk Wedding!

Happy Wedding Wednesday!

I thought I'd fill you in with a few updates - we've only been engaged for 2 weeks, so I'd say we're moving along quite nicely with the planning! I guess when you're with someone for 8 years, you kind of have some time to envision your wedding, which is helpful now as I actually get to plan it in real life and not just in my dreams!

Here are some of the decisions we've made so far!

We officially have a date!!!
August 30, 2014
If you had asked me a month or two ago when I wanted to be married, I would have said May. My parents were married in May, P and I started dating in May, and it's always been a month that I just loved with the flowers blooming and the weather warming up! Being in the wedding business, I worked 3 different (outdoor) weddings this past May - and all of them had the worst weather possible. One had downpours of rain all day, the next high winds that nearly took down their tent, and the third had freakishly high temperatures in the 90s, which made their cake melt. After this, I had some second thoughts about May. Then we got engaged in June and I knew I wanted a little more than a year to plan our wedding, so we decided on September! However, we fell in love with our venue, which was completely booked up through September, so we settle on the last weekend in August, which also happens to be Labor Day weekend!

We also have our venue!
Cairnwood Estate
Our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception will all be held at this beautiful historic estate outside of the city of Philadelphia! Being in the event planning business, I've seen my fair share of weddings! What I love about them is that no two are ever the same. I also love that I get to see all different kinds of ideas come to life. I've known for a while that I'm not a country club or hotel kind of bride, I've always wanted something unique and different. I also knew right away that I wanted to have some sort of an outside aspect to my wedding. When I saw this place I didn't need to look any further - it had everything that I wanted and we both instantly knew it was our place! Our wedding will be held out front of the estate (weather permitting), then our cocktail hour will be around the side in the gardens, followed by our reception under the tent on the back patio!

We also decided on our honeymoon location!
Bora Bora & Moorea

I've had a slight obsession with Tahiti ever since I first laid eyes on it - which probably was back when The Bachelorette went there. I've also dreamed about going there and staying in an over-water hut & diving off my porch into the crystal clear blue waters. When Peter and I were in the early stages of our relationship, he made me a scrapbook for Valentine's Day one year that was filled with some of our favorite pictures and memories from prom, high school, beach trips, beginning years of college, and more. On the very last page he wrote the word - "Future?" with a picture of Bora Bora under it. At the time it always was just something we talked about doing one day in the future - and here we are almost 5 years later actually making it a reality!

So there you have it! We have a date, a venue, and a honeymoon location - we're good to go right? Who needs a caterer, photographer, and florist... Just kidding, those are all next on my to-do list! But as of now I'm feeling pretty accomplished and can't wait to plan some more, it's fun! No bridezilla over here :-)
